More Rambles…

Well, there’s another week gone. We now have one more person working with us, so we’re only short one person at work now…

My birthday is in… actually, one week! (Plus 5 hrs. and 40 mins. from the time noted of posting…) My parents will be in town (and my sister is currently in town), so the four of us plus my aunts will be going out to dinner at the Summit Grill (nice, reasonably good/well-priced restaurant that’s close enough to everyone). Then, on Sunday (the 7th) I’ll be getting together with hethos and our group of friends, something that I’m really looking forward to – I haven’t seen most of them since last October, and that’s way too long a time!

The cats are doing well, the family’s doing well (as far as I’m aware) – my brother’s even picked out his house – and I’m feeling reasonably good. (Except I’m ready to shoot my knee – it might make it feel better – but we won’t talk about that.)

Now, I just need to get to work on writing – the beginning of the week wasn’t the best (I got 4 hours of sleep – at most – both Sunday and Monday, so Tuesday I spent pretty much the entire day, between finishing my breakfast at 0815 hrs. and getting dinner around 2140 hrs. sound asleep…), and I haven’t been doing that much since then, either. *sigh* I’m working on it…

And once FFNet lets me log in, I’m going to post the Rurouni Kenshin haiku Wolf and Dragon that I wrote about 8 months ago…

Later, all!

Rambles From Work…

Well, it’s been almost two weeks since my last entry… and a very busy two weeks they have been!

First of all, we got our new supervisor on the 1st. So far, he seems to be quite nice, though he’s currently trying to desperately catch up on training. (And, of course, our IT guys don’t yet have some of the necessary accounts set up for him… *sigh*)

Went to see “The Brothers Grimm” with my Auntie Glo last Friday. It was okay, but no great shakes – not going to be buying it when it comes out of video/DVD, that’s for sure. And I definitely don’t recommend it for anyone who has a phobia about bugs!

Speaking of wildlife (though bigger than bugs!), I had a rather close encounter with a skunk yesterday morning while on my last patrol. I walked out the door to head over to the construction site to make sure the gate was still locked (the school’s building a new athletic centre, and the workers aren’t allowed on until after 6am). I got about fifteen steps away from the door when I heard a rustling sound up ahead, looked up, and saw a skunk (facing me, but with its tail raised) about six feet in front of me, at most.

Luckily, I do know how to deal with wild animals. I carefully (and slowly) backed away from it, until it felt I had gone far enough that it was safe to cross the path I was on to get to the grassy area – via the wooden path through the flowerbeds, as opposed to straight through! – and then waited until it was a certain distance away before I started walking forward again. Boy, was that rather nerve-wracking! It’s certainly the closest I’ve ever come to a skunk while we were both outside. But all’s well that ends well, as they say…

Today hasn’t been too bad so far. Well, generally speaking. My knee’s buggered up again (*heavy sigh*), and I seem to have developed a headache in the last hour or two… but I’ve been writing most of the morning (when I haven’t been on patrols) and I’m rather happy about what I’ve managed to accomplish.

Oh, yeah… guess what Saitô and Kenshin have done to me now!

Shoved another story idea down my throat, that’s what. And to make things worse, this isn’t just a story – this is a story that has two variations, and they’re making me write both…

Oh well, I’m enjoying it, and that’s the important part.

And one last thing before I say “Goodbye for now”… Expect RuroBatt/Edge of the Blade Chapter 2, Part 4 to be up sometime this afternoon/this evening…

Later!

Talk About Stress…

When I woke up this evening, I thought it was going to be a great day. Got plenty of sleep (for the first time in three days), was well rested, fairly relaxed, and in a good mood.

Then I left for work.

Got three steps outside my door, and discovered that my right knee (which I had thought was getting better, since it didn’t need any support at work yesterday) was beyond screwed up – every time I put weight on it it feels as though there’s a needle going into it. Painful! So I had to go back and get my cane.

Then, I got to Lawrence West station at about 11:03pm (I generally arrive between 10:59 and 11:04, depending on whether I miss the 10:56 subway at Eglinton West or not), and headed up to wait for the 11:08 #52 bus (which generally arrives between 11:09 and 11:12). It generally takes about 5-7 minutes to get from Lawrence West station to Avenue Rd. at that time of night, so I wasn’t worried until it reached 11:15 and there was no sign of the bus. At 11:20, I called work and let the guy I was supposed to relieve at 11:30 know that I was going to be late.

Finally, the 11:28 bus arrives at – you guessed it! – 11:30. I stagger on board, sit down, and then spend the next 8 minutes getting more and more stressed as the bus goes along.

Arrived at work at 11:40. *sigh*

So I’m here, which is fine, and the guy I’m relieving understands that the whole bus mess was unavoidable…

Now there’s just the problem of my knee, and whether I’ll be able to do any patrols today. *sigh*x2

</end rant>…

Feels good to get that off my chest. Thanks for letting me rant to you…

More Random Ramblings…

Well, I’m working tomorrow – 12 hr. shift. Volunteered for it, since our weekend person is taking the day off (the week before she leaves, actually), and am hoping to get at least a bit of creative work done among the patrols and keeping an eye on the people there for the Fulford debate…

Plus, my knee is buggered all to hell right now. I occasionally have this problem where my kneecap(s) decide(s) it/they don’t like the position they’re supposed to be in, so it/they shift slightly. Not fun for walking places… and even less fun for handling stairs (of which I have to walk up 2-1/2 flights to get to my apartment). Luckily, it’s not too bad at the moment, and having a cane handy is pretty much enough to deal with it.

Had breakfast with my “adopted” aunt this morning – met her after work. Had a nice, long chat (we spent about 2 hrs. there, all told) and she told me all about the 2 weeks in Costa Rica visiting my parents that she just came back from on Monday. She had a great time, and it sounds like it was as relaxing for her as it was for me (which was definitely nice). And apparently the cat toys I picked up in an effort to replace the knitted mouse that Gypsy (the new puppy) took a liking to were a real success – she said all four of the cats loved them. (And given that only two of them played with the knitted mouse, that’s not bad!)

Okay, that’s about it for the random ramblings… got to have something to eat, take my tablets, relax for a bit, and head back to bed so I can head into work for 11 tomorrow morning…

Later!
