Toasty Orange Flames…

Well, I’m having a pleasant last night in Costa Rica. I’m sitting in front of the fireplace, enjoying the warmth of the flames (only night we’ve had it on while I’ve been here, but it’s been a bit cool today). Mom’s busy in the background scolding No Se (the youngest cat – aka “El Diablo”), who is persisting in wandering all over the table and counters. Spent a reasonably nice, quiet day today, just relaxing.

I’m definitely going to miss this place, though I am looking forward to seeing my aunts and my cats again, and going back to a country where I understand everything spoken in the official languages…

I’ve had a very good visit here – got to see lots of places, but also got the chance to relax that I don’t often get back in Toronto.

Talk to you tomorrow!

From Costa Rica…

Had a very pleasant day yesterday – lunch out at the Hotel Bougainvillea (gorgeous place, and excellent food), then did a bit of shopping with Mom after we dropped Dad off at bridge, then came home, made arrangements to start getting DSL Internet at home (as opposed to the dial-up that I have now), and then when we picked Dad up we went out to dinner at a Princess Marina (a small chain of restaurants, kind of like a St. Hubert’s at home). That dinner was okay, but nothing special (and the noise when we first got there was awful – whole bunch of families there with their little kids, and the acoustics of the place were dreadful).

Cats & Rambles

This is what is called posting for the sake of posting. Well, mostly, anyway…

Regarding Cats: Mitzy (see entry pic) is an adorable little Burmese cat. And I do mean “adorable”, despite the fact that some of her habits (like trying to lie on my face when I’m attempting to sleep, and sucking on stuffed animals, electric blankets, etc., and licking the sides of the plastic laundry hampers, for example) drive me crazy.

Unfortunately, over the past two or three weeks she has developed yet another habit that drives me nuts.

I’m used to Burmese lying across my shoulders – that was one of Brightspot’s favourite perches, as it happens. And Mitzy generally liked to be lifted up to hang over one shoulder facing behind me. But lately, she’s been climbing onto my shoulders while I’m sitting in my chair, and draping her forepaws and the front part of her torso over my chest, for all the world as if she’s reading what’s on my computer screen. And it’s driving me bonkers! *sigh*

Of course, Mitzy’s bonkers anyway… Sweet-tempered, but definitely “not all there” at times…

As for other things:

First of all, a belated Happy 23rd to my sister Daphne…

Secondly, a belated Happy B-Day to stormheller!

Thirdly… hoping to have another chapter/part of either RuroBatt/Edge of the Blade or RuroSen: A Strange Partnership to post soon…

Fourth – anyone know any good ways to deal with headaches without taking drugs? (Currently having the occasional dose of Tylenol Migraine, since it seems to help, and I can’t have anything with aspirin due to the medication I take for my TMJ/osteoarthritis.) Other than sleep, that is. I’ve had a fairly good winter so far with respect to headaches, but lately… *sigh*

Fifth: I’m leaving for Costa Rica for just over two weeks on Monday the 20th. Will probably upload the occasional update (or maybe more frequent – I like Costa Rica, and I generally tend to relax there)… I’m really looking forward to it. And I may even get slightly warmer weather than last year, given that this year, I’m going down about 2 weeks later… (And will hopefully not come back to a nasty snowstorm here in T.O., given it will be into the second week of March by that time…)

Okay, that’s about it for now…

Talk to you soon!

General (Health) Update…

Well, just found out the cause of the dizzy spells (and possibly the ridiculous absentmindedness and apathetic attitude I’ve been demonstrating) from the past month and a half.

Low iron.

*sigh*

Oh well. At least now I can do something about it. And hopefully get myself back into the swing of things, and get working on my writing, and all the rest of that stuff that I’m really meant to be doing because I have obligations to fulfill… (voluntary obligations, but definitely things I should be doing – like communicating with my friends!).

Politics, Schmolitics…

…aka “Someone Tell Those Idiots to Leave the Mud-Slinging and Name-Calling in the Schoolyard Where it Belongs!” aka “Okay, Time To Vote Green Party, Everyone”…

Yes, I’m coming back from about a month and a half of dizzy spells and absentmindedness with a rant about politics, a subject I usually stay as far away from as I possibly can… but I’m rather fed up.

For those who aren’t Canadian, this is probably something you can ignore. Hell, you can ignore it if you are Canadian. I’m just wanting to express my annoyance in a semi-public forum, I guess, what with the federal election being in less than two weeks.

So, why are we having an election? From what I can tell, it’s because the Liberals have been naughty little boys and girls who have been sticking their fingers in the piggy-bank when they shouldn’t have been. Okay, not happy about that. They definitely screwed up there. However, listening to some of the radio election ads for the Conservatives, I have to laugh; the implication from those ads being that while the Liberals are corrupt, the Conservatives are near saints.

Now, I can’t say that any particular politician is corrupt or not – see above regarding my usual views on politics. It is, however, an accepted fact of life in both Canada and the U.S. (and probably a number of other countries) that politics = corruption. No matter who is in power, there’s going to be people exploiting it. A rather cynical view of human nature, I admit, but one I doubt that people can refute. The Liberals simply ended up getting caught at it.

So why am I going into this?

Simple. We’ve been inundated over the past several months about Liberal corruption, to the point where I imagine people are sick of hearing about it. Yes, they screwed up. Yes, those are valid reasons to doubt their fitness for holding government office. But at the same time, the ones who have been involved in said corruption (at least as far as I’m aware) have been/are being dealt with. Would you tar and feather a whole group for the mistakes of a few? (Please ignore my inconsistency between this and my comment about politics=corruption… *rueful look*)

The question that needs to be asked is: who will do the best job of government?

My personal views tend to fall into line with the Liberal ideals – I was delighted at the fact that the government decided to legalize/recognize same-sex marriage, etc. And I do not want the Conservatives screwing up advances like that (as far as I recall, Mr. Harper – the Conservative leader – has threatened to “re-visit” that particular piece of legislation should they get in). Nor do I want the Bloc Quebecois in charge (gods, that would be a nightmare!).

So, the question becomes, what do I, personally, do? The ads that have been going on (every one that I’ve heard of, I don’t care which party it’s from) are seriously making me think that we need to toss the entire government out and start anew.

*shrug* Oh well… will have to wait and see, I guess.

*rant over*

Later!
